Dawson Flora Reserve

Overview

Revel in the natural beauty of native flora and birdlife.

At the western entrance to Dawson Reserve you will cross some original rail lines. Once a bustling railway station, nowadays the site is an important example of Gippsland’s native flora. Here you will see the trail meandering off into the distance, and as you go you will pass though rich, green farmlands, and pass by streams and billabongs. This is a good section to look for native birds such as rosella, cockatoos, eagles and hawks. Frogs too, can often be heard croaking merrily to each other. You might even spot a sly fox making its way furtively across the paddocks.

Please be aware that within the reserve, native flora which has been designated “Flora of Significance” thrives along the trail’s shoulder. Please take care not to damage these special plants (as is the case with all flora on the trail).
