Friends of the Rail Trail
We have a loyal network of trail users and supporters, including cyclists, riders, walkers, schools, and service groups, who assist the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail Committee of Management in its management and operation of the trail by:
- Providing information about what needs doing along the trail, and about the use of the trail. i.e. Who uses it? What for? When do they use it? Where do they go?
- Undertaking work to assist with the construction, maintenance, and marketing of the trail.
Involvement in the friend’s network provides opportunities for people to be actively engaged in the management of the rail trail whether it be as a social outlet, to give back to the community, to upgrade skills, for physical health and well-being, or to advocate for the trail.
Member interests are varied, and include:
- the condition of the track
- infrastructure along the trail
- recreation and/or tourism
- vegetation including planting and weed control
- history of the former railway
We are always on the lookout for new members, groups, or individuals, so if this sounds like you please complete the form below.
Hold an Event on the Trail
Anyone who is running a public event on the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail, must have an agreement with the GPRT Committee of Management. To enable the process to be completed on time you need to contact us at least 3 months prior to complete an Application in Principle, the first stage to an agreement to use the trail.
This enables the GPRT CoM to ensure we do not have a crossover of events, most importantly we need to ensure that you are covered for accidents or issues that may arise.
We also have information on the current conditions of the trail, so that we can support the best outcome for your event.
Fill out the form below to get the process started.
