Perched 3km outside of Stratford, on a bluff above the Avon River (Dooyeedang) bend, sits Knob Reserve. This site is hugely significant in Gunaikurnai culture as a gathering place where the five Gunaikurnai clans would meet on common ground. It continued to be a vital point of connection for the community post-colonisation, as Gunaikurnai peoples sought refuge, and a place to connect with family through the mission era and generations of separation. In 2010, it was the site of the first ceremony to confer native title determination.
Knob Reserve is just one of the significant sites on the Bataluk Cultural Trail, a cultural touring route that spans from South Gippsland to Cape Conran.
