Two new Shipping Containers have now been installed.
We are pleased to share that the two new shipping containers have now been delivered and are being used by the Rail Trail volunteers at Traralgon East. The containers are used for the storage of equipment and materials at the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail block in Dranes Rd. In September 2024, the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail committee received a grant of $7,700 as part of the Latrobe City Council 2024/25 Community Grant Program – Capital Works Minor.
We acknowledge the generous support of the Latrobe City Council and greatly appreciate the assistance of all our volunteers involved in getting containers in place and ready to use, and for the ongoing storage of our equipment on their property.

The containers are temporarily located at the southern end of the Dranes Road block and will be moved to their final position closer to the new Gippsland Water compound and the entry into the block, in the near future.

Volunteers keep the Trail operating
The Trail is a significant community asset and provides a wide range of benefits to the Gippsland community including socially, environmentally (retention of remnant vegetation) and economically, as a fabulous tourist destination all throughout the year. The Gippsland Plains Rail Trail Committee of Management works diligently in ensuring the preservation of the 63 kms of the trail, with an extensive volunteer network, from Traralgon to Stratford, who assist in the regular maintenance and management of the trail.
New members, groups or individuals are always welcome to join the Friends of the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail. If you would like to join the friendly network of trail users and supporters register your interest here.
