Rainbow Creek, Cowwarr

A highlight of the trail is the scenic crossing of the Rainbow Creek bridge at Cowwarr.

During an unusually heavy flood in 1952, the fast rising Thompson River found an alternative route for itself. Efforts to repair the damage proved unsuccesful, and the newly formed subsiduary waterway was eventually named Rainbow Creek. Due to further flooding, the creek has now substantially increased in volume.

Seasonally, it is possible to see Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout in Rainbow Creek (always check State/Territory fishing regulations for size, bag/possession limits and licensing/permit requirements. Some native fish are protected and may not be taken.) Rainbow Creek is an important source of irrigation water for the lush pasture in the area.
